Happy Thursday everyone 🙂 I promised I’d have another post up this week, if anything, as a sort of consolation for my lack of presence, as of late! So today I’m going to share some of my favorite ideas for creating fall-friendly looks on a less friendly budget!
For me, playing up my style for certain seasons is all about sprucing. I’ve never been one to run out and buy an entire new wardrobe just because the weather is changing (or for any reason at all, really). When I was younger, my favorite show was called The Look For Less on the Style network; Elisabeth Hasselbeck would help contestants recreate designer looks, all while sticking to a strict budget and shopping at stores like JC Penney (lol you already knew I was an interesting child). I would even rip out pictures of outfits in magazines and ‘recreate’ the show with my barbies and their wardrobes. (Double lol.) That being said: one thing that always drew me to fashion was the hunt. I love sifting through racks, repurposing pieces, and turning something oftentimes seen as frivolous into a game of critical thinking.
Modifying your wardrobe as the weather changes in order to comfortably evolve with it doesn’t have to be drastic, exhausting, or costly – so long as you keep these tips in mind!Modifying your wardrobe for any season
Seasonal accessories – my favorite! I’m loving hats and belts at the moment. Adding a few fall-relevant accessorizes to an otherwise mundane look can give it a new sense of ‘purpose’. This outfit, for example, is pretty plain – making it the perfect counterpart for this baker boy hat and leather jacket. Whatever the weather brings you, try your best to accept (and accessorize) it 🙂 Winter = knitted hats, furry gloves, tights. Spring = unique sunnies, stacked rings to complement your fresh mani, a basket bag. Summer = versatile sandals, necklaces to layer over your bikini, your favorite beach bag.
You can do anything, but not everything… – this is highly applicable to many aspects of life, and fashion is no exception. At any given moment, there are a million trends, fads, and ideas vying for your attention, but stay focused, girl! Ha, I say this because, especially if you’re looking to stay within a budget, it’s important to know what you want to accomplish. Know your personal style, and be willing to experiment, but don’t buy something in the name of feeling #trendy. By the time your order arrives, it will probably be ‘out’, anyway. Just (kinda) kidding, but sticking to pieces you’ll love, regardless of if they’re ‘en Vogue’ or not will save you some major $, and trouble!
Back to Basics – when in doubt- simplify! I talk a lot about the ‘basics’ of my wardrobe, because I think they are a fundamental factor in developing your personal style. My list of basics looks something like this: high waisted medium wash denim, leather jacket, black booties, camisole bodysuit, black belt, cozy sweater, a few trusty gold necklaces, white sneakers, and an oversized button up. It’s important to know your own list of must-haves; they’ll carry you through every season, and rescue you on those ‘nothing to wear’ mornings. With these items in mind, you can make slight modifications for trends-sake; maybe I’ll opt for my favorite jeans, bodysuit, belt, and booties, but look to buy a new teddy bear coat for winter to spruce the outfit up. Cute, practical, and not breaking the bank!
How do you modify your wardrobe from season to season without completely abandoning your budget?!
Thanks for stopping by! I have to wish a happy birthday to my brother-in-law, Louie, because he’s the best 🙂
