Happy Monday! I’ve written a post similar to this one way back when, but I realized it was time for an update on a few closet staples I can’t seem to live without.
One of the best things about getting older is gaining confidence in yourself: your decisions, preferences, ideas, and (of course), your personal style. I think we’re all guilty of people pleasing to some extent; reacting a certain way because it’s expected of you, or lessening yourself so someone else can feel more comfortable — but then you get to a certain place in life where you literally could not care less… Currently! So, my advice of the day is to stop suppressing who you are for the sake of other people. No one who truly loves you will expect you to modify yourself for their own comfort. Plus, you don’t need insecure friends/ significant others who can’t handle all that you are, anyway 🙂 *End tangent, however, this is related to today’s post…
As my style ‘matures’ there are a few closet staples I truly can’t quit repeating, and I don’t care what anyone thinks 😉 I’ve noticed that I lean more towards neutrals and understated style these days, and these 3 pieces help me achieve that on a daily basis!
3 Closet staples
The classic button up: Not enough words to express my appreciation for a good button up. Tie it up in the front, layer it over a bodysuit, wear it as a swim coverup, style it with otherwise difficult-to-match accessories. For such a ‘sophisticated’ top, you can really manipulate it to fit your every day mood, depending on which direction you take it your look!
(When you try to iron your shirt in like two minutes, and yeah, you get it. Ugh.)
The denim cutoff: I’m sure this comes as no surprise to any of you, seeing as I wear denim shorts basically any chance I get – but that’s because, duh, they are a closet staple! As a woman, shorts can be difficult to shop for, but don’t give up the hunt. I’m not a fan of low-rise anything, so I always prefer a higher waist; I’ve found that they’re the most flattering rise for almost every body type, and a bit more comfortable to pair with bodysuits/ crop tops. This staple may be replaced with some great denim if you live… basically anywhere other than California… but they are a necessity here!
The white sneaker: I’ve been ranting about my sneaker obsession all summer long (sorryyy), but, again – with reason. We’re almost to fall, and I don’t know about you, but I’m really over sandals. Just about every other shoe I own is heeled, and sometimes a girl just wants to feel sporty and casual. You can pair them with any look, and instantly transform it to ‘cute!!’ Dress them up, dress them down, wear them all year round… A poem, by me.
Anyone wear either of these closet staples on repeat too? What are 3 pieces you personally can’t live without?
Thanks for stopping by – much love!
